by Sam Chandler · ShacknewsThe Super Mario Galaxy Movie has finally arrived and it’s already hit $34 million at the domestic box office. This figure puts it ahead of the original film when it released back in 2023.
On April 1, 2026, Deadline reported that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has hit $34 million at the domestic box office. Meanwhile, Box Office Mojo has the film currently at $48 million worldwide. The $34 million figure beats out The Super Mario Bros Movie from 2023, which had an opening day of $31.7 million.
With the long weekend offering viewers more opportunities to see the film, it’s going to be interesting to watch these numbers climb. Deadline currently lists some estimates, but also notes it’s simply too early to tell.
Back in 2023, Shacknews CEO Asif Khan coined the term The Super Mario Bros Movie Effect, which highlighted the impact the film had on Nintendo. The Big N reported its Q1 2024 results which showed 1.67 million units of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sales and an increase in hardware sales. We’ll be keeping an eye on NTDOY reporting in a few months to see whether The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has a similar effect.
