Resident Evil Requiem gets Leon Must Die Forever challenge mode in free update
In the mode, players will revisit RE9 locations and battle various enemies, including enhanced versions, with Leon also getting power-ups along the way.
by TJ Denzer · ShacknewsCapcom has surprise dropped an update for Resident Evil Requiem that includes a free new game mode: Leon Must Die Forever. It’s a challenge mode featuring everyone’s favorite grizzled veteran agent and will pit Leon against swaths of enemies in familiar locations. It’s available on all platforms to anyone who has completed the story at least once.
Capcom announced the details of the Leon Must Die Forever mode in a new trailer. Much like Mercenaries Mode in previous games, players will tackle timed challenges in which they must eliminate all enemies and survive with a preset loadout as efficiently as possible. Bonus time is awarded for kills and bigger point values come from higher-threat enemies. There will also be enhanced version of familiar foes. To combat those dangers, Leon can also gain “Enhancers” that augment his abilities, such as increasing handgun/revolver damage, parries that restore hatchet durability, and more.
The Leon Must Die Forever free update seems very much like Capcom’s official take for Mercenaries in Resident Evil Requiem. The base game is amazing, and earned a perfect 10 from Managing Editor David Craddock for it, but it felt hard to say we expected a proper Mercenaries mode with the cast on hand. Even so, the Enhancer system looks like a fun way to add variety to runs.
Players on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2 can update to the latest version of Resident Evil Requiem and access the Leon Must Die Forever mode once they have finished a run of the game. For more news and updates, stay tuned to the Resident Evil series topic.
