Knowing where to find the Far Far West save file location will allow you to back it up manually in case of corruption or just for save keeping. And the file itself is in a relatively common location if you’re familiar with looking for saves, so it’s an easy hunt if you know the process. Here’s where to look.

You can find the Far Far West save file location in the App Data folder at the following filepath:

  • C:\Users\[your user folder]\AppData\Local\FarFarWest\Saved\SaveGames.

The save file itself is a long string of numbers with the .save extension. Any save backups and settings files use the .sav extension, and the .vdf file is a standard file unique to your Steam install of the game.

If you want to make a backup of your save file, I’d recommend copying the entire SaveGames folder to a secure location, preferably on another drive, if your PC has one. Saving to a large external SSD or HDD is also a fine option, provided you don’t have a history of losing drives or otherwise misplacing the data.

The main complication you might face when looking for the Far Far West save file folder is finding the AppData folder itself. It’s hidden by default. To view hidden folders, open a new Explorer folder window and click on the View tab near the top, below the file location field.

With the View dropdown open, navigate to Show, then click Hidden items. If you complete the steps successfully, you’ll make all hidden folders visible when you open Explorer from here on out, and the Hidden items selection should have a check mark beside it.

I always recommend backing up save files every few weeks, though it’s also good practice to do so after every session in case an update comes out that bricks saves across the board. Believe me, it happens. Do whatever feels most comfortable for you.
