by COLlive Editor · COLliveChabad Girls High School of Baltimore opened the new school year with a 50% increase in enrollment and full classrooms.
An affiliate of Chabad Lubavitch of Maryland, CGHS is reaching a new level of maturity as a school. For a relatively young institution, the increase in enrollment is a major milestone. It also brings a challenge that cannot be solved simply by adding more desks: how to welcome more students without losing the warmth, individual attention, and strong sense of identity that helped attract families in the first place.
“Even as we welcome more students, we want every girl to feel known, challenged, supported, and confident in the strengths Hashem has given her,” said Principal Mrs. Miri Levin. “Our goal is that each student should understand that she has something unique to contribute, while developing a real sense of ownership and pnimiyus in her Yiddishkeit and Chassidishkeit.”
That combination of high expectations and personal connection is already being felt by students and parents.
“We are working hard in school, and we love the atmosphere of acceptance and how students from all grades hang out together,” one student shared.
The school places a strong emphasis on rigorous academics in both Kodesh and general studies, with students learning from accomplished educators in their respective fields. But for parents, the academic strength is only part of what stands out.
Following the school’s back-to-school night, parent Estie C. reflected on that balance.
“I was already impressed by the professionalism of the school and the robust academics,” Estie shared. “But tonight I experienced the warmth and care that the leadership and teachers bring to their approach to every individual student.”
That philosophy extends well beyond the formal school day.
Although the year has only recently begun, Bnos Chabad programming is already in full swing. Students have participated in hachanos for the Yomim Tovim, farbrengens marking Chassidishe Yomim Tovim, the school’s Achos incentive program, and a growing schedule of extracurricular and out-of-school activities.
The programming is designed to create a school culture in which Chassidishkeit, friendship, personal development, and fun are woven naturally into daily student life.
With classrooms full, CGHS is entering an important new chapter. But its leadership remains focused on a commitment that cannot be measured by enrollment numbers alone: that every student should feel she has a place, a purpose, and the confidence to bring her individual strengths into the world.
