R’ Arkeh Tzivin, a longtime resident of Crown Heights known for being the owner of the House of Glatt butcher shop, passed away on Friday, erev Shabbos, 11 Tammuz, 5786.
He was 69.
Born and raised in Kfar Chabad, Arkeh was married to Guggie (nee Duchman). For decades, he was a familiar face to generations of Crown Heights residents as the owner of House of Glatt on Kingston Avenue.
Succeeding in the business after his father-in-law, R’ Yisroel Duchman OBM, in 1980, he spent nearly 40 years serving the community with dedication and integrity.
More than a neighborhood butcher and takeout store, House of Glatt became a Crown Heights landmark under his steady hands. Countless families relied on the store for their Shabbos and Yom Tov needs, and many remember Tzivin not only for his friendly smile but for his quiet acts of kindness. He was known to help families in need with dignity, often extending credit or providing assistance without fanfare.
When House of Glatt changed ownership in 2018, many community members reflected on the tremendous impact Tzivin had made over the years, remembering him as a businessman whose greatest priority was caring for people.
Arkeh was known for having an open home and for hosting many guests. He was frequently seen sitting and learning in Chevra Shas nearby on Kingston Avenue.
In recent years, he and his wife moved to the Five Towns, NY, but his heart was always in Crown Heights, according to his family.
He is survived by his wife Guggie Tzivin, and children, Grunie Tzivin – Yerushalayim, Riki Gaerman – Five Towns, Rosie Tzivin – Five Towns, Sroly Tzivin – Little Rock, Arkansas, and grandchildren.
He is also survived by his brothers Motti Tzivin and Note Tzivin of Kfar Chabad and sister Naomi Arieli of Yerushalayim.
The Levaya will take place Sunday, passing by 770 Eastern Parkway at 2:30 PM and burial at Old Montefiore Cemetery at 3:30 PM.
Boruch Dayan Ha’emes.
