Council chief hopeful of budget goodies for Kota Samarahan

THERE have been many developments coming to Kota Samarahan over the years, but a few more ‘goodies’ from the government should augment its growth further.

In this regard, Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) chairman Datuk Peter Minos hopes for continuous progress through key public and private projects, environmental beautification and enhanced safety measures, which he would like to see be included in Budget 2025, set for tabling in the Dewan Rakyat this Friday.

Moreover, he highlights the significance of Sarawak Metro’s Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) project, set for completion by the end of next year, as a pioneering initiative that generates excitement among the Kota Samarahan people.

“We hope that Kota Samarahan will continue to experience sustained growth, as more developments should attract both government and private sector projects, set to benefit our community.

“We eagerly anticipate the completion of Sarawak Metro’s ART project by the end of 2025, as it has become a major topic of discussion and excitement, being the first of its kind in the state,” he told The Borneo Post.

Apart from that, Minos also listed out some major public projects, including an anti-cancer centre, a biodiversity centre, and a new hospital, in talking about his budget wishlist.

Nevertheless, he also acknowledged the roles of the private sector in actively contributing to Kota Samarahan’s growth, citing Ibraco’s launch of its Arden City project as a prime example.

“Ibraco is leading the way through its impressive Arden City mixed development project. We are hopeful that the Saradise Group would join soon, alongside other ongoing housing developments.”

On MPKS’ part, Minos said the council was also planning to enhance the town’s landscape with a two-mile boulevard of greenery and cultural elements, to be undertaken after the completion of the ART project.

He also stressed about the importance of fostering a clean, safe and crime-free environment in Kota Samarahan, with the MPKS working closely with law enforcement to curb social issues.

“MPKS has several plans in the works, with a focus on greening and landscaping Kota Samarahan after the completion of the ART project.

“A proposed two-mile boulevard featuring plants, flowers, and cultural elements will soon take shape, along with other projects in the pipeline.

“We also hope to cultivate a community that embraces cleanliness, beauty and safety, while remaining free from social menace such as drug-trafficking, drug abuse, and other crimes.

“To achieve this, we are working closely with the police,” he said.

In stating this, Minos expressed hope that both federal and state budgets would prioritise Sarawak’s development, ensuring continued progress for this region.
