KOTA KINABALU (Nov 20): One hundred and ninety-seven illegal immigrants were detained by the State Immigration Department at two workers’ quarters in Tuaran and Menggatal on Wednesday.

Sabah Immigration Department director Datuk SH Sitti Saleha Habib Yussof said the 49 Filipino men, 54 Filipino women and 92 Filipino children, and two Indonesian men, are aged from seven months to 62 years old,” she said in a statement on Saturday.

Sitti Saleha said the detainees have committed various offenses under Section 6 (1) (c) and Section 15 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

She said they would be placed at the Papar Immigration Deportation Centre for further investigation.

Sitti Saleha said the operation was to flush out illegal immigrants who are still staying in the state illegally.

She said more operations would be carried out and urged the public to continue to provide information to the department of illegal immigrants staying in their area.
