MIRI (Oct 20): The Senadin branch’s service centre of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has been actively supporting families, especially those from the B40 (low-income) group, through the provision of financial aid.

According to the branch’s secretariat, between August and September this year, the centre had disbursed RM9,700 meant to assist 32 individuals, primarily students who aspired to pursue tertiary education but faced financial constraints in doing so.

“Often, when parents and students come to us for assistance, we conduct a brief background check on their situation. Our initial aid typically covers transportation and accommodation expenses,” said a representative of SUPP Senadin service centre.

“Based on the students’ academic performance and the requirements of their chosen faculties, we also help them apply for loans or scholarships for which they are eligible for.”

The representative highlighted the case of Lisa Ensulut, a mother of several children whose husband works as a labourer.

“With their limited income, the family struggles to make ends meet.

“It became really hard as Lisa’s eldest son, Andrey, was preparing to further his education.”

On Sept 23, Lisa approached the SUPP Senadin service centre for help, and her application was swiftly approved.

Andrey, 19, has been accepted into Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) to pursue a Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

“We supported the family by providing funds to ease their financial stress,” said the SUPP representative.

“Additionally, Lisa also sought assistance from Miri MP Chiew Choon Man, who responded positively, agreeing to cover the fees and sponsor Andrey’s bus fare to Kuching, ensuring that he would reach his destination safely.”

The SUPP Senadin emphasises its ongoing commitment to supporting B40 families, encouraging them to pursue educational opportunities as a means to improve their future.

“We continue to explore ways to assist those in need, with a focus on fostering brighter prospects through education,” said the representative.
