KUCHING (Sept 21): The Sarawak Career and Training Fair (SCaT Fair) will be returning this year in Kuching next month, and then Sibu this November.

The fair is organised by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD) in collaboration with Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Sarawak (Tegas), with the support of the Social Security Organisation (Socso).

Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the fair is scheduled to take place at Hikmah Exchange Event Centre (HEEC) here on Oct 5-6 and Sibu Indoor Stadium on Nov 2-3, from 8.30am to 5pm.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari will officiate at the fair in both zones.

“The SCaT Fair 2024 will serve as a ‘One-Stop Centre’ for students, youth, parents and the community at large.

“It is meant to provide comprehensive information on education and career opportunities; deliver details on educational financial aids available from participating agencies; enhance the employability and marketability of graduates and youth; and empower schoolchildren to make informed decisions about their futures and nurture interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine),” said Sagah during a press conference at HEEC yesterday.

He said the fair features programmes such as competitions designed to showcase Sarawak institution trainees’ skills, as well as STEM exhibitions and talks to inspire student interest in these fields.

“Approximately 50 exhibitors, including companies, public and private higher education institutions, financial aid providers, technical schools as well as government departments and agencies, will participate this year,” he said, adding that the fair is expected to attract over 12,000 visitors and 50,000 online viewers from each zone.

Moreover, Sagah said Socso will be conducting open job interviews featuring 30 industries, with the addition of 30 vendor companies brought over by Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas).

He added that the fair will feature several concurrent events, including seven exciting side programmes: the STEM Playground; Drone & Robotic Explore (Drobotex) Challenge; SCaT Kamboh Stage; Skills Master; lucky draw; Planetarium Sultan Iskandar (PSI) Dome; Cosplay Community Meet-Up; and Kid’s Fun Zone.

Also present at the press conference were Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment deputy minister and Tegas chairman Datuk Len Talif Salleh, as well as MEITD permanent secretary Adana Jed.
