MIRI (Oct 7): The Lions Club of Batu Niah has reached out to the Long San community in Telang Usan near here.

Led by organising chairman Jack Wong Tiong Meng, the Lions Club members visited SMK Temenggong Datuk Lawai Jau and SK St Pius during their outreach convoy on Sept 26 to 28.

Wong said through the community outreach programme, the club had managed to raise safety awareness and importance of education, as well as provide eye care access to the rural communities.

The visit saw the handing over of fire extinguishers, stationeries and detergent to SK St Pius, alongside a donation of 187 units of scientific calculators worth RM14,100 and fire extinguishers to SMK Temenggong Datuk Lawai Jau.

“We would like to thank Safety Plus Resources Sdn Bhd for their support and efforts in educating the community on fire safety awareness and prevention,” said Wong.

Also taking place was an eye health screening programme at the Long San longhouse, where the families were also presented with food aid and clothing.

Lions Club of Batu Niah president Wilson Ho thanked the participating club members for their community service and the donors for the success of the programme.

“We welcome more people to be involved in voluntary services as together we can strengthen unity and improve the community’s quality of life,” said Ho.
