KOTA SAMARAHAN (Oct 27): The water supply in Kota Samarahan has now returned to normal following completion of repairs on a damaged pipeline along the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page at around 2am this morning, Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Metro) said the repair works were successfully completed just past midnight.

However, affected residents may still experience low water pressure for the next few days as the water pressure normalises.

“Sarawak Metro Sdn Bhd sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused by this incident, especially to the affected communities in Kota Samarahan,” it said.

In an earlier statement, Sarawak Metro revealed a sub-contractor had damaged a water pipe during its utility relocation works for the construction of the Blue Line of the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) project.

Sarawak Metro, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC), has been entrusted by the Sarawak government to modernise public transport through the KUTS project.

The backbone of the KUTS project is the introduction of the zero-emission Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) hydrogen vehicles

Kuching Water Board (KWB) issued a notice yesterday morning, stating that the damaged pipeline had caused water interruption to residents along the Jalan Kuching-Samarahan Expressway, Jalan Kampung Tanjung Bako, Kampung Binyuk, Midway Crescent, Uni Garden, Kampung Segintin, the Sarawak Heart Centre and surrounding areas since 11am on Nov 25.

The water disruptions for nearly two days had frustrated the affected residents, who expressed their disappointment and anger on social media.
