KOTA KINABALU (Oct 24): WRS 4×4 Club from Sabah successfully carried out an important promotional visit to Pontianak and Singkawang in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, from September 26 to 28.

The visit aimed to introduce the international 4×4 expedition “No Turning Back 2025” while building closer ties with Indonesia’s off-road community.

The delegation from WRS 4×4 Club led by president Thompson Teo, held a key meeting on September 27 with H.M. Tasdik, the head of Indonesia Offroad Federation (IOF) West Kalimantan for the 2023-2027 period.

The meeting, held at Cafe Detik on Jalan Podomoro in Pontianak, marked an initial step in strengthening cooperation between both parties, said Teo.

He added that in promoting Sabah’s tourism potential through this 4×4 event, WRS 4X4 Club received support from the Sabah Tourism Board, which played a vital role in introducing Sabah as a premier international extreme sports destination.

“The Sabah Tourism Board sees this expedition as an effective platform to promote Sabah as a unique hub for sports and nature tourism in the region,” he said.

Teo also said that the meeting with Indonesia Offroad Federation (West Kalimantan provided an opportunity to discuss potential collaborations between Sabah and West Kalimantan in off-road extreme sports.

“Both sides view the No Turning Back 2025 international 4×4 expedition as a strategic platform to expand international participation, leveraging the regional 4×4 community network. Beyond strengthening relations, discussions also focused on how this partnership could introduce even more exciting and extreme cross-border challenges in the future,” he said.

WRS 4×4 Club also took the opportunity to promote the No Turning Back 2025 international 4×4 expedition in Singkawang on September 28.

The visit to Singkawang included a meeting with Kuntoro, the head of IOF Singkawang, with members of the Singkawang 4×4 Group in attendance. This further solidified cooperative ties, expected to help broaden the off-road community network between both nations.

The three-day visit was hailed as a major success by WRS 4×4 Club, which expressed confidence that the discussions would positively impact the development of off-road sports in both countries.

“The No Turning Back 2025 international 4×4 expedition is now seen not only as a major event in Sabah but also as a growing global platform gaining international recognition,” Teo said.

He added that with the support from the Sabah Tourism Board, WRS 4×4 Club hopes this cooperation will bring increased participation from Indonesia, further establishing the expedition as one of the largest off-road events in Southeast Asia.

“The upcoming No Turning Back 2025 is expected to see broader and more challenging participation, reinforcing WRS 4×4 Club’s leadership in the world of extreme off-road sports,” he said.
