Man in Kuching jailed five months for assaulting man

KUCHING (Nov 5): The Magistrates’ Court here sentenced a man to five months jail for striking another man with a piece of wood following an accusation he had been gossiping about his marital life.

Shahdur Rahman Iskandar Shah, 25, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan after being charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years or a fine or whipping.

Shahdur committed the offence at the Travillion Commercial Centre, Jalan Padungan here at 3.40am on Oct 31, 2024.

According to the facts of the case, the victim, who was with a friend at the time, was approached by Shahdur, who then struck the victim with a piece of wood.

The assault resulted in injuries on the victim’s forehead and ears.

The incident stemmed from a misunderstanding where Shahdur accused the victim of telling others about his marital life.

The assault was also witnessed by the victim’s friend. The victim subsequently lodged a police report, that led to Shahdur’s arrest on the same day.

The case was prosecuted by Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin while Shahdur was unrepresented by counsel.
