KUCHING (March 15): A 32-year-old man was arrested for allegedly damaging a police four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle with a hammer at the Bau district police headquarters yesterday.

District police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the incident was reported by a police personnel at 1pm.

“About 20 minutes earlier, a police personnel saw a man walking towards the police 4WD, brandishing a hammer that was hidden in his jeans and striking the left rear window of the vehicle until it broke.

“The same personnel then approached the suspect and apprehended him. The suspect sustained minor injuries to his right finger after being cut by the window shards,” he said in a statement.

Initial investigations reveal that the suspect allegedly acted in that manner because he heard voices accusing him of being a whistleblower on drug-related activities in his village.

He then broke the window with a hammer so that he could be arrested and held in a police custody, thereby escaping the accusations.

The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code and Section 90 of the Police Act 1967.
