Mayor praises Sarawak’s unity in diversity at MBKS Deepavali open house
by ting tieng hee · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (Nov 6): Sarawak stands as a beacon of multicultural unity, where diversity is celebrated and embraced, said Kuching South Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng,
He stated that events like Deepavali open house showcase Sarawak’s greatest strength — its unity in diversity — allowing Sarawakians to appreciate the unique contributions each community brings to the fabric of the state.
“Today’s Deepavali open house brings together communities from all walks of life to honour the traditions and values of our Indian community.
“At MBKS, we consider ourselves one family, embracing everyone, whether a part of the majority or a minority. Together, we are united as the MBKS family,” he said at MBKS Deepavali open house at its headquarters here today.
Adding on, Wee said the Indian community has long been an essential part of Kuching’s growth, and many of its members have made invaluable contributions to MBKS.
“Through dedicated service across various departments and sectors, they have helped shape Kuching South into the vibrant city it is today. Their hard work, commitment, and passion have enriched the economy and enhanced services and programmes that benefit all residents,” he added.
“Our state government, under the dedicated leadership of the Premier and his team, shares this vision. Together, we work to ensure that every community has a voice and is empowered to contribute to our shared future.”
He said through supportive policies and initiatives, the government strives to uplift the well-being of every Sarawakian, making the state a true model of peaceful coexistence and unity in diversity.
“As we celebrate Deepavali, may this Festival of Lights bring peace, prosperity, and harmony to all. Let us continue to recognise and appreciate the dedication of everyone contributing to the growth and well-being of Kuching South, especially those within our council.
“Together, let’s build a Sarawak that remains a place of opportunity, respect, and togetherness for generations to come,” added Wee.
More than 200 MBKS staff and guests from all communities attended the open house.
