DCCI hopes Abg Jo continues to champion equitable development in Sarawak
by samuel aubrey · Borneo Post OnlineKUCHING (Jan 13): The Dayak Chamber of Commerce And Industry (DCCI) hopes that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will continue to champion policies that prioritise equitable development across all regions and communities in Sarawak.
“Programmes that specifically address the economic gaps faced by rural and indigenous populations, including Dayak entrepreneurs, are vital,” said its secretary general Libat Langub in a statement issued in conjunction with Abang Johari’s eight years anniversary in office.
Libat also expressed the hope that there will be enhanced support for Dayak entrepreneurs, noting that the Dayak business community requires tailored programmes to address unique challenges such as limited access to capital, markets, and capacity-building opportunities.
“DCCI urges the establishment of special funds or initiatives, such as microfinancing schemes and grants, specifically targeted at uplifting Dayak entrepreneurs in sectors like agriculture, tourism, and small-scale industries,” he said.
Libat further stated that DCCI believes that policies empowering the private sector to take lead in economic development, particularly in collaboration with Dayak entrepreneurs, will be instrumental in driving long-term growth.
“DCCI advocates for increased collaboration between the government and business associations to co-create policies and programmes that reflect ground realities,” he said.
He added DCCI also hopes for enhanced focus on education, technical training, and entrepreneurship programmes for rural communities to empower Dayak youth to participate meaningfully in the state’s economic transformation.
He pointed out that establishing mentorship and leadership programmes for aspiring Dayak business leaders can help build a robust and competitive entrepreneurial ecosystem.
“Support for Dayak entrepreneurs to access national and international markets, including export promotion and digital commerce platforms, will help them scale their businesses and contribute significantly to the state’s economy,” he said.
Regarding Sarawak’s focus on renewable energy and sustainable industries, Libat said DCCI hopes the Premier will prioritise policies that balance economic development with environmental stewardship.
“This approach will ensure long-term prosperity for all communities,” he said.
On a related matter, Libat noted that Abang Johari has demonstrated exemplary leadership in driving the state’s economic growth and positioning Sarawak as a dynamic and progressive state within Malaysia.
He said DCCI acknowledges and commends several key achievements that have significantly benefited Sarawak, such as revenue growth and fiscal prudence, industrial expansion and green economy focus, support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and local entrepreneurs, and infrastructure development.
“The Sarawak Premier’s tenure has been marked by transformative achievements that have laid a strong foundation for Sarawak’s economic future. On behalf DCCI, we commend his dedication and leadership.
“As Sarawak continues its journey toward greater economic prosperity, DCCI remains committed to working hand-in-hand with the government to ensure that the benefits of growth reach all communities, particularly the Dayak business community,” he said.
Libat added DCCI is optimistic that with continued collaboration and inclusive policies, Sarawak will achieve even greater milestones in the years to come.
