KUCHING (April 6): The cost of goods in Sarawak continues to be influenced by logistical challenges and the state’s vast geography, said Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh.

He said Sarawak’s vast territory and reliance on land transportation contribute to the extensive use of diesel, which in turn affects overall costs.

“Although there are mechanisms to stabilise prices, actual costs remain influenced by logistical factors,” he said.

Len noted that the widespread consumption of diesel makes differentiated pricing approaches a reasonable measure under current conditions.

“This situation needs to be understood by all parties to avoid misunderstandings,” he told reporters during the LCDA Sapphire Run Bersama Komuniti 1.0 at Padang Merdeka here yesterday.

He added that fluctuations in diesel prices, coupled with supply chain constraints, could have a direct impact on the overall cost of living in Sarawak, particularly with regard to essential goods and services.
