Everything We Know About Season 2 of ‘The Testaments’
Is The Testaments season 2 really actually happening?
· CosmopolitanAt the beginning of The Testaments, we learned that the characters we meet on the spin-off to The Handmaid’s Tale will be instrumental. Obviously, it’s going to take more than one season to achieve that, so it’s thrilling that The Testaments is coming back!
Here’s everything we know about the confirmed season 2.
The series, based on the 2019 novel by Margaret Atwood, takes place after The Handmaid’s Tale and focuses on the “next generation” of girls in Gilead. These young women have been raised in the fundamentalist dystopia by high-ranking Commanders and their wives. For the most part, they’re drinking the Kool-Aid after years of brainwashing and grooming to be perfect Gilead child brides. However, in season 1 of The Testaments, their own rebellious spirits, a newcomer from Canada, and other dramatic circumstances start to shake things up for the better.
You bet your bottom dollar, it is! According to Deadline, Hulu officially announced that they renewed The Testaments for season 2 one week ahead of the season 1 finale.
What’s going to happen in The Testaments season 2?
Fans of The Handmaid’s Tale know to expect some kind of cliffhanger at the end of The Testaments season 1. Already, it looks like the fates of characters like Daisy and especially Becka could be up in the air in the finale. The aforementioned preamble did promise us that many if not most of these girls will survive to see Gilead fall. But we don’t know who and how many just yet.
While the series is taking creative liberties with Atwood’s source material, the show is following the major plot beats and it looks like season 1 is going to end midway through. There’s still a lot of plot left to potentially cover in season 2 and possibly beyond on The Testaments. If you want to get spoiled, you can always read the book! However, be warned: it looks like they’re not doing that reveal with Daisy’s character. It’s more what could happen next, not what definitely will happen next.
Which cast members will return for The Testaments season 2?
Again, that depends on how season 1 plays out. Gilead is a lethally dangerous world. Here’s to hoping that the entire starring, ensemble and guest cast gets to return, including Chase Infiniti, Rowan Blanchard, Ann Dowd, Lucy Halliday, Mattea Conforti, Isolde Ardies, Shechinah Mpumlwana, Amy Seimetz, Elisabeth Moss, Amanda Brugel, Nate Corddry, Brad Alexander, Mabel Li, and Reed Diamond. There’s also the possibility for new characters and cast members, as well as returning cameos from The Handmaid’s Tale. Let’s get O-T Fagbenle on the phone ASAP! Agnes has to meet Luke.
When will The Testaments season 2 premiere?
Since Hulu announced the renewal fairly quickly, production on The Testaments season 2 might start on the second season sooner rather than later. That means that we could, fingers crossed, get The Testaments season 2 this time next year.
