‘Ransom Canyon’ Was Canceled by Netflix—Here’s What Happened

Attention everyone deeply invested in Staten and Quinn’s love story on Ransom Canyon: the show is not, alas, returning for another season. I’ll give you a moment. For reasons that we’ll get into in a moment, Netflix decided to cancel Ransom Canyon after just two seasons—news that comes just over a month after the show’s sophomore season premiered at the end of July.

So, what happened? According to Deadline, who broke the news, Ransom Canyon was “on borrowed time” after a “respectable but not massive viewership” in season 1. Turns out this had something to do with the series order for season 2 being reduced to eight episodes from ten, not to mention a new supporting cast coming in to shake things up.

Per Deadline, the show’s second season was “creatively better received internally” but didn’t perform as well as season 1. It was in the Netflix Top 10 for just three weeks (Season 1 was there for four), meaning viewership was down and the streamer clearly didn’t want to throw more money at the show for a third season.

The good news is that Ransom Canyon’s second season ended with Quinn and Staten together, meaning viewers aren’t having to deal with loose ends or cliffhangers that frustratingly don’t get resolved.

So far, the show’s leads Minka Kelly and Josh Duhamel haven’t made statements about Ransom Canyon being canceled, but stay tuned.
