Prince William Pressured King Charles to Write That Letter About Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Looks like Prince William was the puppet master behind King Charles’s letter about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. The letter—which dropped over the weekend—essentially confirmed the Sussexes’ role in the royal family now that they’re back in England: they still aren’t working royals, won’t get security, and will not be called “His and Her Royal Highness.” And apparently William put pressure on his dad to release it after being sick of confusion surrounding his brother’s return to the UK.

“William had had enough of the confusion,” a source tells Rob Shuter. “Lord Lieutenancies were asking how Harry and Meghan should be treated. William’s answer was brutally simple: nothing has changed. They are out.”

As for Meghan and Harry’s reaction to the letter, “Their team received the message shortly before the rest of the world. There was no negotiation. They were informed. That was the moment they realized they had underestimated William’s power.”

The insider adds that “They’re starting to question whether this return can work. William can close doors faster than they expected. William has won, for now. Harry and Meghan are back in Britain — but they’re not back in the royal family.”

Meghan and Harry have been back for a minute, and so far there’s no indication that they’ve seen the royal family or have plans to. But it’s still early days, and they’re pretty busy getting their kids enrolled in school, figuring out where to live, and minding their business, so.
