This incident comes amid heightened tensions and occasional drone activity reported in parts of Russia.
Meanwhile, Russia's Defence Ministry reported that over 1,000 Ukrainian drones were downed across the country in the past 24 hours, amid one of the largest aerial attacks on Russian territory in more than a year.
The strikes come after Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy vowed retribution following Russia's recent heavy drone and missile barrage on Kyiv.
Zelenskiy posted a video on X showing a drone in flight, columns of black smoke, and fire crews battling flames. "Our responses to Russia’s prolongation of the war and its attacks on our cities and communities are entirely justified," he said, adding that Ukraine could strike targets more than 500 km inside Russia despite dense air defences.
"We are clearly telling the Russians, their state must end its war."
Russia's Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks as "mass terrorist" actions by the "Kyiv regime," with spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accusing Kyiv of targeting civilians while Ukraine-backed Eurovision performances continued. Both sides deny deliberately targeting civilians.
Along with the Indian worker, authorities reported at least three to four deaths in the wider Moscow area from the Ukrainian drone barrage, with 12 others injured. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said air defences destroyed 81 drones targeting the capital since midnight, according to a report by Reuters.
Strikes damaged residential areas, including near Moscow's oil refinery, where some injuries occurred, though the facility's core technology remained intact.
Escalating the persisting tensions with Russia, Ukraine has intensified long-range drone strikes on Russian oil refineries, depots, and infrastructure in recent weeks.
Moscow, in turn, continues its assaults on Ukrainian cities, with both nations seeking to degrade the other's war-sustaining capabilities while civilian areas increasingly come under fire.
