At least some of the injured continue to be in a critical condition.
Fatigued sleeper bus driver loses control of his vehicle in a horrible crash
The double-decker luxurious sleeper bus carrying passengers to their homes in Gorakhpur from Delhi was reported by the authorities as a result of an investigation of the tragic accident to have suffered a horrible crash into the highway barrier after falling asleep at the wheel.
The vehicle moving at the high speed veered sharply towards one side of the road and crashed heavily into the barrier, overturning on its side as a result. This led to the destruction of windows in the bus from which several people fell to the ground, while other victims got stuck under the collapsed chairs in the bus.

UPEIDA & local police launch rescue mission after the collision
The crash resulted in immediate panic and calls for rescue from the surviving passengers who alerted other motorists about the accident. Immediately, upon receiving the alert, rescue squads from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), local police units, and other district administrative officials arrived at the crash location to begin the huge rescue mission.
Through the use of specialized cutting tools, passengers trapped inside the crushed bus body were rescued by locals and police forces. The injured were promptly evacuated in ambulance fleets to the nearest community health centers. However, several passengers with critical injuries, including trauma and bleeding to the brain and various internal organs, were quickly evacuated to the trauma center at King George's Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow.
Six people killed in hours of traffic chaos as investigation begins
According to the senior officials from the police, who were at the spot, six people died due to injuries they suffered there. Law enforcement authorities are collaborating with traffic coordination to ascertain the identity of the six deceased persons, whose bodies have been taken to the district mortuary for autopsy.
The wreckage of the vehicle blocked quite an extensive portion of the highway towards Lucknow. The process of normalizing traffic was carried out only after removing the debris from the highway with the help of large cranes. An official investigation is underway as to whether driver fatigue and mechanical failure caused the accident.
