Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's daughter, grandchild, daughter-in-law and son-in-law have been killed in US-Israeli strikes, news agency Reuters reported citing Iranian state media Sunday.

However, there has been no official confirmation of Khamenei’s status, despite claims of his death made by US President Donald Trump and a senior Israeli official.

On February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel launched a major joint military operation against Iran, codenamed Operation Epic Fury (US) and Roaring Lion (Israel), targeting strategic sites including nuclear facilities, ballistic missile infrastructure, and leadership compounds in and around Tehran and other cities like Isfahan and Qom.

US and Israeli officials described the strikes as preemptive actions to eliminate Iran's nuclear ambitions, degrade its military capabilities, and address imminent threats, with President Donald Trump announcing "major combat operations" and vowing continued heavy bombing "as long as necessary."

Iranian media reported loud explosions across the capital, deployment of emergency services. At least 201 people have been killed and more than 747 others injured in Iran as a result of the joint US–Israeli military strikes.

The strikes reportedly targeted high-level Iranian officials, with Trump and senior Israeli official claiming Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed, a assertion Iranian state media disputed while leadership status stayed unconfirmed.

In retaliation, Iran fired waves of ballistic missiles and drones at Israel and US military bases in the region, including in the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan, escalating the conflict regionally.
