After a roar of applause, Meryl Streep took the stage of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Thursday night alongside its embattled host, during her whirlwind promotional tour for the hotly anticipated sequel “The Devil Wears Prada 2.”

“How are you?” Streep asked, clearly referring to President Trump loudly and repeatedly — calling for the host’s firing on every platform imaginable over a joke about how Melania Trump looked like “an expectant widow” because her husband’s been looking particularly frail and sleepy of late.

“When is ABC Fake News Network firing seriously unfunny Jimmy Kimmel, who incompetently presides over one of the Lowest Rated shows on Television?” Trump posted to Truth Social earlier in the day. “People are angry. It better be soon!!!” (Kimmel’s show has solid ratings.)

“I’m holding up,” Kimmel told Streep.

“You’re a prince. You are a Knight Templar,” Streep gushed. “You’re carrying the banner of freedom of the press.”

After he bashfully replied, “I’m just trying to do some jokes,” the actress let him know, “We all depend on you — and the world is listening. I’ve just come from around the world.”

Streep knows a thing or two about the freedom of the press, having garnered acclaim for her portrayal of famed Washington Post publisher Katherine Graham in the 2017 film “The Post,” about the newspaper publishing the Pentagon Papers.
