‘The Boys’ Series Finale to Screen in Movie Theaters With 4DX Showtimes

Diabolical: In addition to dropping on Amazon’s Prime Video later this month, “The Boys” fifth and final season finale is going to be available to view in movie theaters using 4DX technology.

Screenings will occur at 9:30 p.m. ET on May 19 in 4DX theaters at Regal, AMC, B&B, Marcus, Cineplex, Cinema West, Cinepolis and Regency locations in the U.S. and Canada.

Seats can be reserved with the purchase of a concession voucher that’s redeemable the day of the screening.

The 4DX movie theater format utilizes motion-enabled chairs, which create vibrations and sensations during screenings, and tech that simulates weather conditions and other environmental aspects.

Per Amazon’s description for “The Boys” finale theatrical release, “The multi-Emmy Award-winning series The Boys reaches its climactic conclusion. For one night only, experience the epic series-defining showdown between Butcher and Homelander in 4DX, an explosive final chapter five seasons in the making. With everything on the line, The Boys leave it all behind for one last diabolical stand. Feel every deafening blast and shocking twist as blood, guts and gore are amplified by this total sensory experience. Some moments are too big to experience from your couch. This isn’t just the finale, it’s the bloody big screen.”

This makes “The Boys” the latest popular streaming series to set a theatrical screening for a finale, with HBO Max screening the final episode of “The Pitt” Season 2 at Alamo Drafthouse locations and Netflix giving the series finale of “Stranger Things” a limited release around its New Year’s Eve launch.

“In two weeks, we’re going out with a bang,” the show’s official X account announced Tuesday. “Literally, because ya might vibrate watchin’ the series finale in 4DX. Get yer mitts on a seat with the purchase of a concession voucher, which is good towards sweets or soda the day of. See ya May 19 at 9:30 p.m.”

Created by Eric Kripke (“Supernatural”), Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, and adapted from the comic book series of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, “The Boys” is a satirical superhero TV drama that debuted in 2019. The drama, which follows the titular Boys in their struggles against the nefarious supe organization Vought, has spawned multiple spinoffs at Amazon, including animated anthology “The Boys Presents: Diabolical,” the now-canceled, live-action college-set series “Gen V,” and the upcoming prequel show “Vought Rising.”

“The Boys” has been both a critical and commercial hit for Amazon, drawing high viewership for the streamer and an Emmy nomination for top drama in 2021.

The series stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit and Cameron Crovetti, as well as Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Jensen Ackles, Valorie Curry and Susan Heyward.
