Fox Says It Has No Plans to Bring Back ‘So You Think You Can Dance’
by Michael Schneider · VarietySo you think you can dance? You won’t be doing it on Fox any time soon. Fox Television Network president Rob Wade confirmed Sunday that the long-running dance competition show, which hasn’t aired since May 2024, isn’t expected to return.
“Obviously, a really important show in the history of Fox, and right now, there’s no plans to order another season,” Thorn told reporters as Fox shared details about its 2026-2027 TV season — which features more than 15 unscripted series, but no “SYTYCD.” “And you know, we’ve had conversations about it, but nothing formal.”

Fox has aired 18 seasons of “So You Think You Can Dance,” with the last in spring 2024, hosted by Cat Deely with judges Allison Holker, JoJo Siwa and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
“So You Think You Can Dance” had been a summer staple for Fox from its launch in 2005 to 2019. But then the last few years of “SYTYCD” were marked by various troubles and controversies. The show took a two-year break during the COVID-19 pandemic, returning with a Season 17 featuring JoJo Siwa, Matthew Morrison and Twitch as judges (replacing judging panelists Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy and Laurieann Gibson, who were originally slated to return for the show’s 17th season in 2020 before the pandemic hit).
But Morrison later left the series after after he failed to follow “competition production protocols.” Leah Remini was brought in to take over.
The show skipped 2023, but then returned in 2024 — in the spring for the first time. For the show’s reimagined Season 18, Lythgoe was originally supposed to return, alongside Holker (who had been married to Twitch, who died after Season 17). But Lythgoe stepped down in the wake of two lawsuits accusing him of sexual assault; Siwa then stepped in to replace him.
In trying to reinvent “SYTYCD” in Season 18 will the dance challenges, with weekly eliminations leading to a $100,000 grand prize winner, continued. For the first time, the show also featured documentary-style chronicles of the contestants’ journey.
Dick Clark Productions and Sony Pictures Television’s 19 Entertainment were behind the series, which featured weekly dance challenges intended to simulate the realities of a successful dance career.
