Box Office: ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’ Makes $3.8 Million in Previews, Robert Pattinson’s ‘Primetime’ at $2.7 Million

Sony’s “Resident Evil,” last week’s zombie-infested box office champion, will face a few new challengers as it attempts to stay No. 1 for the second week in a row.

Marvel’s “Avengers: Endgame Encore” re-release, Paramount and Brad Pitt’s survival thriller “Heart of the Beast,” A24 and Robert Pattinson’s “Primetime” and Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s animated “Forgotten Island” will all face off at the box office this weekend.

“Avengers: Endgame Encore,” which adds new scenes to the 2019 blockbuster ahead of this December’s “Avengers: Doomsday,” made $3.8 million in previews. It’s track to make $25 million to $28 million this weekend, impressive for a re-release. “Resident Evil,” which topped the box office with $61 million last week, is targeting $24 million to $26 million in its second frame.

“Primetime,” which made $2.7 million in previews, and “Heart of the Beast,” close behind with $2 million in previews, are both projected to make $17 million to $20 million in their debuts. Pattinson plays “To Catch a Predator” host Chris Hansen in “Primetime,” a dark look at the infamous reality TV show. The cast also includes Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, Tony Revolori, Anna Faris, Phoebe Bridgers and more as the victims and participants in “To Catch a Predator.” “Primetime” is directed by Lance Oppenheim, who surprised attendees of the Telluride film festival this month with the news that he co-directed an Elizabeth Holmes documentary, “You Can See Everything,” with comedian Nathan Fielder that premieres next month.

In “Heart of the Beast,” Pitt stars as a retired Army veteran who gets stranded in the Alaskan wilderness with his military combat dog. The pair must trek 58 miles to safety and battle the elements and their past PTSD to make it home. The film also stars J.K. Simmons and is directed by David Ayer.

“Forgotten Island” has $1.5 million in previews and is aiming for $15 million to $17 million this weekend and stars singer H.E.R. and Liza Soberano in an animated fantasy set in the Philippines in the 1990s. They play two best friends on the verge of heading to college who are transported to a mystical world that they must escape before they permanently forget about each other. The cast includes Dave Franco, Jenny Slate, Manny Jacinto, Jo Koy and more.
