M’sian Uni Students Outraged After Student Organisers Blast Hostel Speakers for 40 Minutes at 5AM

by · WORLD OF BUZZ

A recent early morning stunt by event organisers at a local university hostel has sparked widespread outrage online after they hijacked the central public address (PA) system at the crack of dawn.

Taking to Threads, user @bangkitsuara shared a series of frustrated posts highlighting how a dawn event promotion disrupted residents’ sleep across the entire residential college.

“The story goes like this, on 1/11/2026 at 5 AM, all the residents of the building were sound asleep and resting, suddenly someone shouted downstairs telling everyone to wake up, with announcements through the speaker of every block repeating continuously for 40 minutes!” the user wrote.

40 minutes of repeated announcements and shouting at 5:00 AM

The incident unfolded around 5:00 AM on 1 November 2026, when the college’s central PA system was activated to promote an early morning religious and community program titled “Geng Subuh Macam Jumaat” under an ongoing campus festival.

While community activities and religious observances are fully respected, students slammed the method used to drive attendance. Instead of using internal messaging apps or group chats, organisers broadcasted repeated announcements and shouting through block speakers for nearly 40 minutes.

“Let me clarify first that I am not questioning anything about religion or race… The problem is, you suddenly used the speakers to make announcements repeatedly for 40 minutes. Doing it once would have been fine, we could be patient. But you repeated it as many as 50 times, constantly replaying the same thing. The people downstairs were shouting as if there was a fire,” the user expressed on his post.

Residents flooded block WhatsApp groups with complaints, explaining that many students were resting after late-night study sessions or managing tight academic deadlines. Unfortunately, those immediate appeals were allegedly ignored by the individuals operating the system.

Committee and management maintain silence

According to the user, despite widespread backlash and online petitions calling for accountability, neither the event committee nor the college management has issued a formal explanation or apology so far, acting as though nothing happened.

Students pointed out that emergency PA systems are strictly meant for critical alerts, such as fire hazards, rather than serving as personal alarm clocks or commercial megaphones for event promotions.
