Driver of Overturned Container that Killed a 21yo Woman Casually Shows ‘Peace’ Sign to Reporters
by Renushara · WORLD OF BUZZYesterday, it was reported that a 21-year-old woman had died after a container overturned and crushed her vehicle before crashing into other vehicles. The incident happened when a trailer driver took a sharp turn at the Jalan Bukit Tengah traffic light in Penang.
Following this, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) arrested the driver of the trailer to assist with investigations of the crash.
According to a report by Sinar Harian, the 51-year-old driver had casually shown the ‘peace’ sign to reporters who attempted to capture his face on camera.
He did this when he arrived at the Bukit Mertajam Magistrate’s Court Complex at 8:20am today (November 14), where the police had applied for a remand order against him, to enable them to conduct further investigations into the driver.
The remand order has since been issued by Magistrate Mohd Harith Mohd Mazlan, for 4 days until Sunday (November 17).
Initial screening tests conducted on the driver show negative results for drugs and alcohol.
His case is currently being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
If found guilty, he could face imprisonment of not less than 2 years and not more than 10 years, and a fine of not less than RM5,000 and not more than RM20,000.
