After Viral ‘Mee Pok’ Incident, JAKIM Clarifies It’s Not Affiliated with “Halal Inquiry Company Direktori”

by · WORLD OF BUZZ

The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) has addressed a recent incident involving the “Halal Inquiry Company Direktori”(HICD) social media page, which shared content and statements related to halal issues.

JAKIM Director General Dato’ Dr Sirajuddin bin Suhaimee stressed that HICD has no affiliation with JAKIM and has never been appointed, recognised, or authorised by the department in any capacity relating to Malaysia’s Halal Certification.

JAKIM says it has nothing to do with HICD

In a statement, Dr Sirajuddin reminded the public that any statements, views, comments, reviews, investigations, assessments, or conclusions shared by HICD are made in its own capacity and do not represent JAKIM’s position, decisions, or official statements.

The statement reads,

“The MADANI Government, through the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), takes seriously the sharing of content and statements related to halal issues on HICD’s social media platform, particularly those involving a company recently.
“JAKIM wishes to stress that HICD has no affiliation with JAKIM and has never been appointed, recognised, or authorised by the department in any capacity relating to Malaysia’s Halal Certification.”

“JAKIM is committed to accurate halal information”

Dr Sirajuddin added that JAKIM believes efforts to raise public awareness about the importance of halal should always be based on facts, handled responsibly, and should not create confusion, prejudice, or generalisations about any individual, race, or community.

“Differences in culture, language, and social backgrounds are part of the diversity that makes Malaysia unique and contributes to the country’s harmony.
“As such, information and discussions about halal issues should be shared responsibly, wisely, and with due consideration.”

JAKIM also urged the public not to jump to conclusions based on unverified information and to check the status of Malaysia’s Halal Certification through the Official Malaysia Halal Portal or JAKIM’s official channels.

“JAKIM remains committed to ensuring that information about halal is shared accurately, through the proper authorities, and based on reliable facts for the benefit and well-being of the Muslim community.”
