“I can’t rest” – Injured M’sian Rider Continues Making Deliveries Hours After Accident to Support His Kids
by Didi · WORLD OF BUZZA woman recently took to Facebook to share an encounter with a food delivery rider that has since moved the hearts of many Malaysians.
In her post, Haoyee Yeow recalled ordering food through a delivery app. When her order arrived, she was taken aback after noticing that the rider was limping as he walked over to hand her the food.
Food rider still completes delivery after being involved in accident
Upon noticing that the rider was limping, Haoyee immediately asked what had happened. The delivery rider calmly told her that he had been involved in a road accident earlier that day.
His response left her stunned, prompting her to ask why he was still out making deliveries instead of going to see a doctor.
“I almost cried. He told me that while it was pouring heavily that afternoon, he was hit by a car at a junction. His leg was hurting badly,” she wrote.
As they continued talking, Haoyee learnt that the rider was divorced and had children, which was why he chose to keep working despite his injury.
“He went silent for a moment when I said his wife must be worried and then replied ‘we’re divorced’. When I asked if he had any children, he replied, ‘Yes… that’s why I can’t rest.'”
“Thank you for safely delivering our dinner”
After hearing his story, Haoyee gave the rider a tip and hoped the small gesture would remind him that his sacrifices had not gone unnoticed.
Reflecting on the encounter, she said it had stayed with her ever since. She shared:
“Some people aren’t pain-free. They’re simply in no position to stop, even when they’re hurting. Because if they stop… who will take care of their children? How will they make a living? How will they put dinner on the table?
“We often think delivery riders are simply bringing us our meals. But today, what arrived at my door wasn’t just a few packs of hot food. It was a father who endured the pain in his injured leg and insisted on finishing his job. You’re working incredibly hard. Thank you for safely delivering our dinner.”
Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, Haoyee said she hopes more people will take a moment to show kindness, respect, and appreciation to those who work hard every day.
“Sometimes, a smile, a simple ‘thank you’, or a small act of appreciation can mean more than we realise. If each of us chooses to be a little kinder every day, I truly believe the world will become a warmer and more beautiful place.”
