Finding an automatic watch that works with casual clothing and more formal outfits can be difficult. Some models have thick cases that struggle to fit under shirt cuffs, while others rely on traditional designs that don’t appeal to everyone. The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 offers an alternative with its integrated stainless steel bracelet, relatively slim case, and styling inspired by the late 1970s.

A 1978-inspired design with modern proportions

The PRX takes inspiration from a Tissot case design introduced in 1978. Rather than attaching a conventional strap to protruding lugs, the bracelet connects directly to the case, creating a continuous appearance across the wrist.

The 316L stainless steel case measures 40mm wide, 39.5mm long, and 10.93mm thick. These dimensions give the PRX a relatively slim profile for an automatic watch, although the integrated bracelet can affect how it sits on different wrist sizes.

The watch weighs 138 grams. Brushed and polished stainless steel surfaces provide contrast across the case and bracelet.

Buyers with smaller wrists should pay particular attention to the first bracelet links, which can influence the overall fit beyond the stated case dimensions.

A blue gradient dial adds depth

The defining feature of this particular PRX is its blue gradient dial. Instead of using a uniform shade, the color transitions across the surface, becoming darker toward the outer edges.

Tissot combines the gradient finish with its familiar waffle-style dial texture. The raised pattern adds depth and changes how the surface reflects light, giving the dial more visual detail than a conventional flat finish.

Applied hour markers and hands feature Super-LumiNova luminous material, which absorbs light before glowing in darker environments. The brightness and duration of the glow depend on prior exposure to light.

A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal protects the dial, with an anti-reflective coating applied to its underside to reduce reflections. A date window provides additional functionality.

Powermatic 80 movement provides extended running time

The PRX uses Tissot’s Swiss automatic Powermatic 80 movement. Unlike quartz watches powered by batteries, automatic mechanical watches use a winding mechanism that collects energy from wrist movement.

When fully wound, the movement provides a power reserve of up to 80 hours. This allows the watch to continue running for more than three days without being worn, depending on its state of winding and operating conditions.

For someone who alternates between watches during the week, that extended reserve can reduce the need to reset the time and date after leaving the PRX unworn over a weekend.

The movement also incorporates a Nivachron balance spring made from a titanium-based alloy. Tissot says the material reduces sensitivity to magnetic fields and improves resistance to shocks and temperature changes.

A transparent mineral-glass caseback reveals the mechanical movement, allowing owners to see its components operating.

Stainless steel bracelet and everyday practicality

The PRX comes with a matching 316L stainless steel bracelet secured by a butterfly folding clasp with push-buttons. The bracelet follows the case’s integrated design, maintaining a continuous appearance from the watch head to the wrist.

Tissot includes a quick-change system that allows the bracelet to be removed without tools. Compatible replacement straps provide options for changing the watch’s appearance, although conventional straps may not fit its integrated attachment.

Tissot rates the PRX for water resistance to 10 bar (100 meters) and includes a two-year warranty.

Who is the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 for?

The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 is suited to buyers who appreciate Swiss automatic movements, integrated-bracelet styling, and watches influenced by 1970s design. Its blue gradient dial distinguishes this reference from more conventional PRX models, while the sapphire crystal and extended power reserve provide practical advantages.

However, automatic movements require more attention than quartz alternatives, and buyers prioritizing minimal maintenance or highly accurate timekeeping may prefer a battery-powered watch. The 40mm case and integrated bracelet also make wrist fit an important consideration.
