CNN, MS NOW and Politico to sue over White House ban

CNN, MS NOW and Politico will sue the Trump administration after being denied access to the White House, the news outlets said in a joint statement.

The three news outlets said they had notified the government that they were filing their lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of Columbia and could see emergency hearings in the case as soon as this week, according to CNN.

Representatives for the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment outside normal business hours.

In a social media post on friday, Mr Trump said that "other Fake News Media Outlets" would face a similar fate, but did not say which ones.

A previous CNN statement called the ban "an illegal assault" on its constitutional right to do journalism without interference from the US government.

In separate statements, MS NOW and Politico said they would "defend our first amendment rights".

CNN and MS NOW said they would continue reporting on the Trump administration, and Politico said it stands by its reporters covering the White House.
