Woman arrested after bomb disposal team attend incident

A woman has been arrested after a Defence Forces Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team was called to assist gardaí at an incident in Co Monaghan.

The incident took place on a road near Carrickmacross yesterday.

In a statement, gardaí confirmed that they stopped a vehicle travelling on the N2 south of Carrickmacross at around 3pm yesterday afternoon.

Following the stop, An Garda Síochána said it requested the assistance of the Irish Defence Forces EOD team.

The team completed an examination of the vehicle, however the outcome is not being released for operational reasons.

The driver of the vehicle, a woman aged in her 20s, was arrested and detained.

Gardaí said that as this is an ongoing operation, there is no further comment at this time.

The road has since reopened.
