The Sheridan Gorman memorial should shock the conscience of open-border fanatics

Jessica Gorman just posed a fine test to Congress’ open-border fanatics: Do they dare sit on the wooden bench she’s donated in memory of her daughter?

A Venezuelan illegal migrant — waved into the country under President Joe Biden and sheltered by Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker — allegedly murdered Sheridan Gorman in Chicago in March; her mom unveiled the bench at the GOP midterm convention this week, inviting Rep. Mike Lawler to be the first to sit in it. 

“May this bench remind us to see those who feel alone, to choose kindness and to remember every life that leaves an empty seat,” runs an inscription on the bench. 

How amazing that Mrs. Gorman could find room in her heart for a message so positive — even as she destined it for an institution packed with members indifferent to her daughter’s fate.

Who will dare sit there? 

Surely not Maryland Sen. Chris van Hollen, who proudly tripped off to visit Salvadoran illegal Kilmar Abrego Garcia post-deportation and did media rounds passionately defending him — though another Salvadoran illegal raped and killed Rachel Morin, one of his own constituents, in 2023. 

Not New York’s Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a longtime advocate of ICE abolition, who staged a fake meltdown near ICE facility in 2018 and was the sole Dem “no” on the 2022 omnibus spending bill because it upped border-security funding. 

Not Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, another “abolisher” who’s held workshops for her fellow Somali immigrants about how to avoid ICE damned the Biden team when it considered resuming construction on the border wall. 

Certainly not Washington’s Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who viciously dismissed Jessica Gorman’s pain and suffering with what amounted to a “sorry, but” at a fiery hearing on sanctuary-city policies in June. 

Finding a single Dem with the right to sit there would be difficult. 

Aside from a few mavericks like Sen. John Fetterman (Pa.)  and Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Wash.), the party is explicitly and implicitly still demanding an open border and the endless influx of rapists and murderers. 

Like Gorman’s killer, and Morin’s, and the Venezuelan illegal who killed Georgia nurse Laken Riley, and on and on and on. 

This bench should shock the conscience of every legislator into desperate awareness of the need to expel criminal border-jumpers. Sadly, most Democrats have shown that when it comes to keeping American citizens safe, they have no conscience.
