Israel boycott

Outside of technology developed by Israeli engineers and scientists, it is much easier to boycott items produced in Israel than China (“Yale freshmen: China yay, Israel nay!,” Sept. 16).  

The Chinese Communist Party also exhibits greater control over the media than Israel does, so it’s harder to learn of its oppressive acts.

Hopefully, four years of study at Yale will make some students more conscious of the CCP’s oppression. What to do about it is a more difficult question.

NY’s money grab

Comptroller Tom DiNapoli recently announced that New York has collected $1.3 billion in tax revenue from online sports betting in 2026 (“NY’s bet on sports wagering,” Sept. 16). 

Yet the industry’s seen $8.3 billion in gross revenue since it was legalized in 2022; with all this newfound wealth, shouldn’t New York’s taxes decrease? 

Our state legislators in Albany only know how to do one thing: spend. If I represented my accounting clients the way they run the state budget, I’d be sued for malpractice.

Clancy holdout

A big deal is being made over the holdout juror against despicable murderer Lindsay Clancy being a black male (“Holdout juror speaks,” Sept 15). 

Who cares what race and gender the only sane juror was? What she did was planned and methodical. She got her husband out of the way by sending him on an errand, then she slowly strangled those babies. She deserves the death penalty.

Failing our kids

More should be done to make the public aware of teachers unions’ political power and how students continue to be dumbed-down by their selfishness (“Randi vs. Public Schools,” Editorial, Sept. 17).

Perhaps we should rid the government of politicians whose campaigns are financially supported by teachers unions. Nothing else has worked.

Don’s conspiracy

President Trump is claiming the attempt on his life by Thomas Crooks was a “Democratic plot” to remove him from the 2024 presidential campaign and accused former FBI Director Christopher Wray of complicity in the matter (“Trump: Butler a Dem plot,” Sept. 16). 

Apparently Trump has forgotten that Wray is a staunch conservative and Crooks was a registered Republican. 

Why should Crooks have been on the radar of the FBI? He was a nonentity with no criminal record who had never threatened Trump nor any other politician. His motives remain unknown. 

This is clearly yet another effort by Trump to smear Democrats before the November elections.

CBS ratings down 

The low ratings for the season opening of CBS News’ “60 Minutes” had nothing to do with the NFL lead-in (“ ’Sickly’ minutes,” Sept. 15). 

The ratings were low because the once-loyal viewers grew sick  of listening to the woke agenda and seeing these so-called “journalists” attack anyone who does not kneel to that  agenda. Preaching to viewers can only go so far. 

They did it to themselves with their lies and half-truths; now, CBS’s new leaders must deal with the consequences.
