The run-first, kick-you-in-the-teeth offense John Harbaugh wanted to replicate with the Giants from his nearly two decades with the Ravens has not arrived. Not even close. Not even close. Four running backs got on the field Sunday, and three of them took turns failing to get in sync and were not helped by getting subbed in and out at a dizzying pace.
The results were ugly, and the outcome was predictable enough. Putting the burden of this offense on the quarterbacks — be it Jameis Winston, who was mostly bad, or J.J. McCarthy, who was impressive in what Harbaugh called “kind of desperation time’’ that is “different than normal football’’ — is not going to work.
