Cowboys’ Jordan Lewis calls out George Pickens after late penalty: ‘Weak’

· New York Post

Cowboys cornerback Jordan Lewis got the last laugh on George Pickens.

As regulation was expiring during Sunday night’s game where the Cowboys beat the Steelers 20-17 on a final-minute touchdown, Pickens was flagged for facemasking Lewis in frustration over the loss.

Lewis apparently doesn’t think too highly of Pickens’ game.

“Pittsburgh needs a receiver,” Lewis was captured saying as the Cowboys were walking through the tunnel to the locker room. “George Pickens is weak.”

The altercation in question came as Lewis recovered a Steelers fumble on the desperation lateral play in which Pittsburgh was attempting a last-ditch effort to respond to the Cowboys’ touchdown, which came on a fourth-down connection from Dak Prescott to Jalen Tolbert.

Pickens grabbed Lewis’ facemask and swung him to the ground.

Pickens may also have been frustrated by his own lack of production in the game, as he caught just three passes — on seven targets — for 26 yards.

The wideout also only participated in about 60 percent of Pittsburgh’s snaps on Sunday night.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin explained to reporters after the game that this was a strategy to try to keep Pickens fresh.

“We just wanted to kind of minimize his reps in an effort to get more productivity,” Tomlin said. “We’re just trying to manage in terms of the totality of the big picture. He wasn’t less of a focal point in terms of our intentions of what we wanted to do offensively, but we did want to cut his reps a little bit in an effort o get higher quality play, just in general.”

The 3-2 Steelers head to Las Vegas to face the Raiders next Sunday.
