Yankees checked in on resurgent — yet ill-fitting — Luis Garcia Jr. as desperate search for offense continues

But that they have inquired on Luis García Jr. of the Nationals, according to two sources, accentuates how badly they are pursuing offense.

Because García is no natural fit for these Yankees.

He is left-handed at a time when the greatest need is right-handed. He was a poor second baseman who was moved full-time to first this year at a time when Ben Rice and Paul Goldschmidt are filling the position. García was removed in the seventh inning of Friday night’s game with what was termed knee soreness, but familiarly against a righty starter, he was playing first and batting second Saturday night against Atlanta.
