Hal Steinbrenner needs to get serious after another failure of a Yankees season

· New York Post

Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner mentioned how he doesn’t enjoy doing post mortems on post-mortem Wednesday. And no, it can’t be fun being reminded they did not meet their stated, longtime goal a 17th straight season under his watch.

But I’ve got news for him: The fans like it even less.

It’s really the least Steinbrenner and Co. can endure as they barrel toward a third decade of failure (or nonsuccess, as he’d prefer). Steinbrenner slightly lowered his father’s bar Wednesday, suggesting it’s not a failure since they made the playoffs yet again (before being dismantled in a three-game sweep by the Rays, a team with one-third the Yankees’ $320 million payroll).

“Winning 93 games is not a failure,” Steinbrenner asserted. “I don’t believe I’ve ever called a season that we didn’t win a world championship successful. At the same time, I’m not going to say that everything that happened that season … was a complete failure.”
