Myles Garrett wants to make poster of Aaron Rodgers while breaking NFL sack record

The Aaron Rodgers and Brett Favre parallels could take another unusual twist if Myles Garrett has his way.

The Browns’ defensive end Myles Garrett is on the cusp of tying or breaking the single-season sack record — that’s held jointly by Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Strahan and Steelers star T.J. Watt — heading into Cleveland’s Week 17 game against Pittsburgh.

That means the 29-year-old Garrett could make some NFL history with a sack on Rodgers, in a similar manner to how Strahan broke the record back on Jan. 6, 2002, when the Giants faced the Favre-led Packers.

Garrett told reporters on Friday that doing it against Rodgers would be “special.”

”[Rodgers is] legendary himself, and it’s a legendary record I’m here chasing,” Garrett said, per ESPN. “That’d be a great one to put a picture on the wall with.”

The defensive end is sitting at 22 sacks, which means he would tie the record with half a sack, and a full sack would make him the new standard-bearer in the NFL.

If Garrett managed to do so in either way this weekend, it would be the first time that he has ever sacked Rodgers after facing him twice during his career.

The Browns and Steelers played earlier this season in Week 6 when Pittsburgh came out with a 23-9 win.

Rodgers and Favre have continued to be linked, as both had successful runs with the Packers, only to be traded to the Jets and have underwhelming stints.

If Garrett were to tie or break the record, it would only add another marker to the similarities of their career.

“Myles Garrett has certainly been an issue for us in that venue,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told reporters about the upcoming matchup. “I think he’s had five sacks against us in our last two trips, neither of which we won. And so we understand the gravity of what we’re going into and how they engineer victory and who’s significant in doing so. He’s at the doorstep of history, and so we certainly have respect for that.”

Watt will not be lining up against the Browns in a game that could include some NFL history, as he has been recovering from a collapsed lung he suffered earlier this month.

He returned to practice this week but was ruled out for the 1 p.m. game in Cleveland on Sunday.
