Chiefs star Rashee Rice files for bankruptcy — and puts Super Bowl ring up as collateral
· New York PostChiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy on Wednesday, claiming he has more than $3.45 million in debts amid civil suit settlements related to his 2024 crash in Dallas, according to multiple reports.
Rice, 26, filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas and claimed he had debts of more than $2.1 million tied to various lawsuits that have been settled or are still awaiting trial, The Athletic reported.
He listed $677,054 in total personal property assets, which included his Super Bowl LVIII ring that he won when the Chiefs defeated the 49ers in overtime on Feb. 11, 2024.
Rice has faced civil litigation for his role in a multi-car, high-speed crash that made headlines in 2024 and resulted in the Chiefs receiver pleading guilty in 2025 to two third-degree felonies, along with a sentence of five years of probation and 30 days of jail time. He received a six-game suspension from the NFL at the start of 2025 for violating the league’s personal conduct policy.
The filing claims that Rice’s largest creditor is related to the 2024 crash and is owed $979,837. Rice is also disputing potential debts from the civil trials, which include a combined $700,000 related to lawsuits filed by victims of the crash and $200,000 owed to an ex-girlfriend who alleged Rice abused her in a suit.
Rice also owes his attorney, Thomas McMurray, $185,226.45 and is using his Super Bowl ring — valued at $160,000 — as collateral.
And among his other debts, Rice listed $207,104.40 to First National Bank of Middle Tennessee for “business debt-personal guarantee,” per The Athletic.
Rice included, as part of his assets, a 2023 Mercedes-Benz worth $53,800 and a combined $13,600 in separate checking accounts.
Rice is in the final year of his rookie deal and has played in five games this season, recording 20 catches for 243 yards and two touchdowns.
