Packers’ Jeff Hafley revealed as favorite for Dolphins’ coaching job after Mike McDaniel’s firing
· New York PostA frontrunner has emerged for the Dolphins’ head-coaching vacancy.
Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley is the leading candidate to replace the fired Mike McDaniel, Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported Saturday.
No final decisions have been made, Pelissero tweeted, and Hafley has earned a second interview with four other NFL teams for their head-coaching openings.
Kevin Stefanski, Robert Saleh, Chris Shula, Jesse Minter, Anthony Campanile, Klint Kubiak and Joe Brady also are among those already interviewed or requested to interview for the position, per reports.
The 46-year-old Hafley also reportedly has interviewed with the Cardinals, Falcons, Raiders and Titans, and he’s expected to meet with the Steelers after longtime coach Mike Tomlin stepped down earlier this week.
Signing with Miami would reunite him with new Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan, who had been Green Bay’s vice president of player personnel.
The Packers finished 11th in the league in fewest points allowed this season and 12th in yardage allowed, but the Bears totaled 445 yards of offense in a 31-27 win over Green Bay last Saturday in the NFC wild-card round.
Hafley, a New Jersey native, served as the head coach at Boston College from 2020-23.
He amassed an overall record of 22-26 with two bowl appearances with the Eagles, although the 2021 Military Bowl was cancelled due to COVID-19.
