Hero

Saints rookie quarterback Tyler Shough completed 32-for-49 for 308 yards with a TD and no turnovers.

His pass attempts, completions and yards were all career highs.

He did a good job neutralizing the Jets blitzes by releasing the ball quickly.

Unsung hero

Saints receiver Chris Olave could not be stopped by the Jets secondary, seemingly breaking free on every route.

He finished with a game-high 10 receptions for 148 yards and two TD catches.

Zero

Brady Cook, the Jets’ rookie quarterback, didn’t have a lot of help.

He was sacked eight times for 57 yards in losses.

But some of those sacks were on him for holding onto the ball too long. Cook lost a fumble and threw an INT in the fourth quarter, which let a close game get away from the Jets.

Key number

6: After going 2-for-11 on third-down conversions in the first half, the Saints converted on all six of them in the second half.

Quote

“It sucks that you lose the game regardless of the situation. It sucks, but we have to get back to work next week, continue to play with effort and continue to find ways to help put our guys in positions to be successful.’’

— Jets head coach Aaron Glenn
