NFL Week 2 betting trends: Unders galore, Bucs blow up Survivor pools, Super Bowl odds shakeup

After favorites and overs dominated the opening week of the NFL season, the script flipped dramatically in Week 2, with outright upsets, low-scoring games and another brutal Sunday for Survivor players.

Here are four betting trends that stood out with Week 2 in the books.

Scoring comes crashing back down

After NFL teams combined for 791 points in Week 1, offenses struggled in Week 2.

Teams produced just 647 combined points, an average of 40.4 per game, with Unders finishing 10-6 after overs went 9-6-1 in the opening week.

Favorites also cooled off, finishing 8-8 against the spread after the Rams covered against the Giants on Monday night. 

Five underdogs won outright Sunday, including the Browns over the Buccaneers, Saints over the Ravens and Raiders over the Chargers.

Survivor carnage strikes again

For the second straight week, one of the most popular Survivor picks wiped out thousands of entries.

The Buccaneers were selected by 6,061 entries in the Circa Survivor contest before losing outright to the Browns as more than a touchdown favorite. 

The Chargers eliminated another 1,357 entries with their loss to the Raiders, while Baltimore’s upset loss to New Orleans knocked out another 835.

Only 8,464 of the contest’s original 25,017 entries remained alive entering Monday night.

The Chargers have been particularly destructive, eliminating thousands of Survivor entries in each of the season’s first two weeks.

Super Bowl market gets another shakeup

The Rams restored some order to the futures market Monday night.

Los Angeles remained the Super Bowl favorite at +650 at FanDuel Sportsbook after crushing the Giants, 28-6, while the Bills sit directly behind at +750 after improving to 2-0 with an impressive win over the Lions on Thursday night.

The 49ers have shortened to 10/1 following a dominant start, while the Chiefs moved from 16/1 after Week 1 to 13/1 after beating Indianapolis in overtime.

Josh Allen takes control of MVP market

Two weeks were apparently enough for Josh Allen to create some separation in the MVP race.

Allen has moved from +350 after Week 1 to +250, according to FanDuel, after leading Buffalo to a 2-0 start while accounting for nine touchdowns without a turnover.

Betting on the NFL?

Brock Purdy has made an even more dramatic move, jumping from 20/1 to +900 after leading San Francisco to their 2-0 start.

Meanwhile, Lamar Jackson slipped from +750 to +900 after the Ravens’ upset loss, while Patrick Mahomes moved from +600 to +750. 

Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels were taken off the board entirely after suffering injuries in Week 2.
