Miami running back Jordan Lyle arrested for fleeing and reckless driving

Miami rising junior running back Jordan Lyle was arrested in Florida on Thursday on charges of fleeing and eluding at a high speed and reckless driving, according to Broward County court records.

Prosecutors told Local 10 News he was released Thursday on $55,000 bail.

Fleeing and eluding is labeled as a felony complaint, while the reckless driving is a misdemeanor.

“We are aware of an incident involving student-athlete Jordan Lyle,” the university told Local 10 News. “As due legal process runs its course, we will have no further comment at this time.”

Lyle, a 6-foot, 205-pound running back from Fort Lauderdale, appeared in 18 games over the past two seasons.

The No. 147 overall recruit and four-star running back, per 247 Sports, appeared in 12 games in his rookie season during the 2024 season and rushed 54 times for 400 yards and four scores.

He ranked third on the team in rushing yards.

Last season, Lyle appeared in just six games due to injury but made his first two career starts.

He suffered an injury in the season-opening win against Notre Dame, notching just 11 rushing yards on five carries, and did not return until October.

Lyle ultimately tallied 35 rushes for 108 yards and one score in limited activity, which had him fourth on the team in rushing yards.

Miami enjoyed an unexpected run to the national championship last season, falling to undefeated Indiana in the title contest.

He had been projected to be the team’s backup running back behind Mark Fletcher this upcoming season, according to The Athletic.

“I see the Jordan Lyle we saw a year ago in many respects, but with better physical traits,” Miami coach Mario Cristobal said recently, per the outlet.

Miami opens the season with a road clash against Stanford on Sept. 4 at 9 p.m. ET.
