Mom of ex-NYPD cop accused of jogger murder complains she ‘lost’ her son— and sends message to victim’s family
· New York PostThe mom of the ex-NYPD cop charged with fatally stabbing a Brooklyn jogger told The Post on Sunday her son is a former Boy Scout and “an excellent boy” – and that she is “so sorry” for the victim’s kin.
Fatma Mohassib acknowledged that her 27-year-old accused killer son, Sayed Mohassib, was hospitalized in psych wards for as long as two months in recent years but maintained he has never been aggressive or hurt others.
“My son, right now, he needs help,” the worried mom said from the family’s Brooklyn home. “He was a Boy Scout, a black belt, he was an excellent boy in every area.
“He go to the mosque all his life. He go to Brooklyn College.

“He was never aggressive, he never hit me or hurt his sister,” she said.
“I know this crime happened last week,’’ the mother said of the apparently random stabbing of jogger Katie Suarez — adding that her son did not know beloved 28-year-old bank teller.
“I’m so, so sorry for the family,’’ Fatma Mohassib said. “My heart go deep for the mother and the father for the girl she passed away.
“Just I’d like to say to everyone, we both lost. You lost your daughter. I lost my son.”
Sayed Mohassib is accused of stabbed Suarez twice in the neck while she jogged along a bike path along the Belt Parkway on Oct. 30.
He told detectives when arrested that he went to the park with a knife because “people were going to come and kill his family,’’ court documents said.
He then ran home drenched in blood and was caught on video soon after running out of the family’s Bensonhurst home in his underwear to throw out his soiled clothes, according to a criminal complaint.
He allegedly told police he also tried to clean blood splattered all over the walls of his room.
Fatma Mohassib said her ex-husband suffers from mental illness, too, and is currently locked up in a psych ward, where his family visits every week.
She said she did not believe that Sayed’s issues were tied to his dad’s own struggles.
Police arrested Sayed on Saturday after he was caught on surveillance video fleeing the crime scene.
He was arraigned and ordered held without bail.
