Tom Brady helping lead Raiders’ coaching search after Pete Carroll firing
· New York PostTom Brady and the Raiders are going back to the coaching drawing board.
In the wake of Monday’s firing of head coach Pete Carroll after one disastrous season, team owner Mark Davis announced that Brady — a minority owner of the Las Vegas franchise — will work in “close collaboration” with returning general manager John Spytek to fill the coaching vacancy.
“Moving forward, General Manager John Spytek will lead all football operations in close collaboration with Tom Brady, including the search for the club’s next head coach,” Davis’ statement read.
“Together, they will guide football decisions with a shared focus on leadership, culture, and alignment with the organization’s long-term vision and goals.”
Spytek, hired as the Raiders’ general manager last year, has a long history with Brady.
Briefly teammates at Michigan, Brady’s three-season run in Tampa Bay overlapped with Spytek’s time with the franchise.
He served as the Buccaneers’ director of player personnel from 2016-20 and VP of player personnel from 2021-22.
He was elevated to assistant general manager in 2023.
Brady, who closed out his playing career with the Buccaneers after the 2022 season, was approved as a minority owner of the Raiders in October 2024.
The team is now searching for its fourth head coach since 2022.
Josh McDaniels was originally hired for the post in January 2022, but he was fired midway through the 2023 season.
Antonio Pierce was named interim head coach before assuming the position full-time in 2024.
Las Vegas parted ways with Pierce last January, paving the way for Carroll, who finished the season at 3-14.
The Raiders are now one of six NFL clubs in need of a new head coach, joining the likes of the Titans, Giants, Falcons, Browns and Cardinals.
Unlike the other teams, Las Vegas currently possesses the No. 1 pick of the 2026 NFL Draft.
