Coca-Cola is a worldwide brand. It's instantly recognised by its iconic red packaging and distinctive white font.

That kind of famous branding "cannot be overlooked," says Richard Lau, president of LOGO.com and a prominent name in logo design and marketing strategy. He goes on to explain just how Coca-Cola's logo does much more than meets the eye.

More than just a fancy version of the company's name, the logo includes an extended tail on the 'C' that is thought to represent a smile, mirroring the brand's emphasis on happiness and joy. Richard added: "This subtle message may go unnoticed, but it subconsciously creates a positive association with the brand in the minds of consumers."

Coca-Cola openly shares its history, including the creation of its logo, on its official website, offering a glimpse into how it has changed over time, reports the Manchester Evening News. The renowned drink's formula was finalised by Dr John S Pemberton, a pharmacist from Atlanta, Georgia, who concocted the original syrup in May 1886.

Coca-Cola was created when carbonated water was mixed with a specially crafted syrup. At the time, it was described as "delicious and refreshing."

According to the Coca-Cola website, Dr Pemberton "carried a jug of the new product down the street to Jacobs' Pharmacy in Atlanta", where it was sampled and pronounced 'excellent'. It was sold as a soda fountain drink for "five cents a glass".

Frank M Robinson, Dr Pemberton's bookkeeper, proposed the company name "Coca-Cola" and the famous flowing script. Robinson believed that "the two Cs would look well in advertising," a concept that also proved successful for Coco Chanel when she launched her iconic fashion house in 1910.

Robinson experimented with several versions of the company's logo in Spencerian script, a popular writing style then, which resulted in multiple editions of logo designs and shapes until the late 1960s. In 1969, the Arden Square logo was introduced, "presented in a red box, with [Robinson's] Coca Cola script underlined with a white 'wave', or 'Dynamic Ribbon Device'."

Coca-Cola is the most popular cola brand in the UK, with an estimated 13 million people drinking it in 2023. Diet Coke came in close second with an estimated 8.95 million consumers

This emblem is still recognised and used worldwide today. Since this revelation, people have been discussing it on Reddit. Recently, someone praised Coca-Cola's timeless design.

Another person noted: "Also cool to see how it translates across different languages." A second person commented: "Ever since someone told me about the faces in the logo I can't unsee it whenever I look at it."

A third fan raved: "Perfect logo." Meanwhile, a fourth enthusiast agreed: "Coca Cola is a cool logo that's why they didn't change it."
