Texas A&M Suffers Loss Before College Football Playoff
· The Fresno BeeThe Texas A&M Aggies fell to No. 7 in the penultimate College Football Playoff rankings after dropping its final game of the regular season following a 27-17 defeat to the then-ranked No. 16 Texas Longhorns.
Although the Aggies came up short of finishing the regular season undefeated and were unable to punch their ticket to the SEC Championship, they are still a surefire lock to make the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history. However, in every program's biggest fear, reports emerged that they will eventually lose a key assistant to another job opening in offensive coordinator Collin Klein.
Klein's unit ranked No. 20 in total offense, averaging 454.4 yards per game, and No. 16 in scoring, averaging 36.3 points per game. His quick ascension through the ranks led to the perfect opportunity for him as he was officially announced as the head coach of his alma mater Kansas State Wildcats on Thursday.
"Got our guy," wrote Kansas State on X.
Before he became one of the best offensive minds in college football, Klein was a star quarterback for the Wildcats (2008-12). His career saw him win the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, be named Big 12 Player of the Year and also finish third in the Heisman voting.
Klein will have the chance to turn things around for a Kansas State program that finished 6-6 and saw Chris Klieman retire after the regular season's end.
While Klein is expected to finish the year out with the Aggies, he will have to pull double duty as he looks to bolster a recruiting class that ranks No. 52 in the country. A task that could very well not have him on his "A" game as Texas A&M looks to win its first title since 1939.
